“Harry Potter”: which film in the saga is the most popular in searches?

Over more than 20 years, the saga “Harry Potter” was able to gather fans from all over the world, becoming one of the biggest phenomena in pop culture. The first book, entitled “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” and released in 1997 was so successful that it ended up yielding six other literary works directly linked to the wizard’s story, in addition to eight film adaptations.

The films, released from 2001 to 2011, were a hit with fans of the original work and those who had never read the books written by JK Rowling. It is not uncommon for each fan to express their preference for a specific film, causing the favorites to differ among themselves.

In Google searches, however, there are titles that stand out in popularity over others. Through the help of the Google Trends platform, CNN carried out a survey on searches regarding the eight films in the franchise.

Which film in the “Harry Potter” saga is most popular in Google searches?

According to data collected by CNN Looking at the last five years, the most popular film in searches made on the site is “The Philosopher’s Stone” (represented in blue in the graph below). The film is followed by “The Prisoner of Azkaban” in second place (yellow), and “The Goblet of Fire” (green) and “The Chamber of Secrets” (red) tied for third place. “The Half-Blood Prince” comes right after (represented in purple).

“Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” even reached its “peak” in Google searches in 2021, when it completed 20 years since its release. That year, the film was shown again in theaters in special sessions.

Although they did not reach the peak like their predecessor, “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” and “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” also had higher searches in 2022 and 2024, respectively, due to the fact that they also received re-runs to celebrate their two decades on air.

It is worth noting that a value of 100 in the search graph represents the highest peak in popularity of a term. A value of 50 means half the popularity and a score of 0 means that there was not enough data about the term.

With a breakdown of regions, those that lead searches for “Philosopher’s Stone” are the states of Ceará and Pernambuco, in first place, followed by Paraíba, Amapá, São Paulo and Paraná, in that order.

“The Prisoner of Azkaban”, in turn, was more popular in Amapá, Ceará and São Paulo, in that order.

The saga tells the adventures of a young man named Harry Potter, who discovers, at the age of 11, that he is a wizard when he is invited to study at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

In the cinema, the plot was interpreted by the main actors Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Emma Watson (Hermione) and Rupert Grint (Ron).

Warner Bros. Company is currently developing a series about the little wizard in conjunction with HBO. Information already released states that each season will be based on one of the seven volumes of JK Rowling’s literary work. The idea is to cast new actors in the roles of famous pop culture characters, such as the trio Harry, Ron and Hermione.
