Princess Elisabeth, 23 -year -old Queen of Belgium, has just completed her first year at Harvard University, but the ban -imposed by the US President Donald Trump’s government to foreign students at the institution may undermine the continuity of their studies.
The Trump government revoked on Thursday (22) Harvard University’s ability to enroll international students and is forcing current foreign students to move to other institutions or lose their legal status in the US. At the same time, Washington threatens to expand repression to other colleges.
“Princess Elisabeth has just completed her first year at university. The impact of the Trump government will only be clearer in the coming days/weeks. We are investigating the situation,” said Belgian Palace spokesman Lore Vandoorne.
“We are analyzing this right now and we will leave things to be resolved. A lot can still happen in the coming days and weeks,” added Palace Communication Director Xavier Baert.
Elisabeth is studying public policies at Harvard, a two -year master’s degree program that, according to the University’s website, expands students’ prospects and enhances their skills to a “successful career in the public service”.
The princess is heir to the Belgian throne, being the oldest of the four sons of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde. Before studying Harvard, she graduated in history and politics from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.
Harvard said on Thursday that the Trump government measure-which affects thousands of students-was illegal and equivalent to retaliation.
