Harvest 2023 will reach a record of 298 million tons, up 13.3%, predicts IBGE

The 2023 agricultural harvest is expected to total a record 298 million tons, 34.9 million tons more than the 2022 performance, an increase of 13.3%.

The data are from the February Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production, released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The result is 3.9 million tons less than forecast in the previous survey, in January, a decrease of 1.3%.

Brazilian producers are expected to harvest 75.8 million hectares in the 2023 agricultural season, an increase of 3.5% in relation to the area harvested in 2022. In relation to the January estimate, the area to be harvested remained stable.

Rice, corn and soy are the three main products of the crop, which together represent 92.8% of the estimated production and 87.6% of the area to be harvested.

Compared to 2022, there were increases of 4.1% in the area to be harvested for corn (up 1.3% in the first harvest of the grain and 5% in the second harvest), 1.2% in the area of ​​upland cotton and 4.8% for soy. In the opposite direction, there was a decrease in the expected area harvested for rice (-5.8%) and wheat (-2.8%).
