The editors of «Playboy» they saw right in the choice to put the cover on sexy 28enne Hayley Hasselhoff. The American model (and actress) is the daughter of David Hasselhoff, former lifeguard Mitch Buchannon from the TV series “Baywatch”, a maxi cult 90s cult. Very blonde, very sensual, with a buttery body like a pin-up of yesteryear, Hayley Hasselhoff boasts the record of prima top plus-size in copertina del magazine founded in the 1950s by Hugh Hefner. Not only is Hayley Hasselhoff sensationally beautiful, but she is also and above all a woman committed to promoting an authentic female image, fighting since she was very young against the aesthetic diktats imposed by the media and social networks.
That’s why it made us immensely happy to be able to intercept her for this exclusive interview. Meet Hayley Hasselhoff.
How does it feel to be on the cover of an iconic magazine like “Playboy”?
«A galvanizing experience. The fact that the shooting took place during the hardest months of the global pandemic amplified my idea of acceptance of my body and my person. I am grateful to be the first curvy model on a European cover of “Playboy” (Germany) and it was incredible to have been captured by a woman from the highly artistic look such as Ellen Von Unwerth. As we shot the campaign we were all thrilled by the great impact this cover would have. A step forward towards female empowerment and inclusiveness. It gives me joy to know that my message of acceptance of women of all sizes and weights now has such an important echo and can reach so many people».
What do you think of the definition “plus size model”?
«I have no problem being called a top plus size. Although I understand that the relationship with the plus size definition is completely personal. The truth is that I started posing as a plus size model when I was just fourteen. For me it is part of the industry terminology and, having signed two fashion collections for plus sizes, I associate definitions such as “plus size model” and “curvy model” with concepts of success and love. That said, everyone has their own opinion on the matter and it is right to respect it. My mission is to bring positivity to these words. There is nothing wrong with being yourself: you are beautiful regardless of your size».
How and when did you start modeling?
«From an early age I dreamed of being an actress. I have always enjoyed being able to express my emotions and this profession leads you to develop a sense of empathy. When I was a teen, someone on my dad’s team advised me to model for plus sizes (the term curvy wasn’t used at the time). I set up a meeting with Ford Models and they immediately took me. At that moment hor understood that beauty is not of a single shape or size. Even if, at the time of my beginnings, the media did not give any space to curvy models, let’s say curvy women in general».
What happened then?
«I became the spokesperson for the US brand Torrid, which specializes in plus size dresses. And I learned even more my value, the importance of self-esteem. All in a notoriously delicate age such as adolescence».
Are there any secrets to feeling good in your own skin?
«Live without self-judging yourself constantly and whenever you have a negative thought, block it and replace it with a positive one. Building a self-care toolbox to draw on in bad moments: this is what helps. Start with simple affirmations to repeat to yourself and also accept that it’s okay not to feel well from time to time. Count the here and now».
What can’t be missing from her beauty routine?
«Awareness: never without. And then never without my essential oil kit and a rose quartz crystal. My beauty routine starts with a ritual to calm my mind and reconnect to my being. Then I enjoy applying fantastic serums and masks to my face».
Can you give us your definition of beauty?
«Beauty is being yourself without having to apologize, it is being brave and embrace your vulnerable side, is tapping into your inner strength to grow. Beauty is uniqueness and being guided by the heart. I invite you to find a quiet space to stay with yourself and think about what you felt beautiful in today and yesterday. It works”.
