This is actually a huge rarity for the market of serials and television shows – usually no one decides to renew the series for a second season immediately after the release of the first series. However, the leaders of the Game of Thrones prequel are confident that the story told by the writers will be fascinating, and the creative team will be able to tell it convincingly enough.
“Our phenomenal cast and crew took on the challenge and exceeded all expectations by delivering a show that has already established itself as a must-see on television. We’re thrilled to continue bringing the epic saga of House Targaryen to life in Season 2,” a spokesperson for HBO said in a statement.
On the other hand, it could well have been a cunning marketing ploy that only attracted more attention to the series. The fact is that the series “House of the Dragon” is based on the novel “The Princess and the Queen” by George R.R. Martin, which is literally replete with interesting events and boasts an impressive length. Accordingly, the incredibly popular show from HBO, with all the desire, would not have been able to cover even half of the “timekeeping” of the novel in ten episodes of the first season, and it makes no sense to tell only half of the story. This means that the HBO writers would have had to launch a second, and maybe a third season anyway, in order to complete at least the plot of this novel.
Unfortunately, although the heads of the television network HBO have officially renewed the project for a second season, there is no exact information about its premiere, which is quite expected, yet. It would be strange to name any dates when only one episode of the show was released, plus you need to understand that the second season needs to be filmed first. Accordingly, fans will have to wait at least a year.
