“He asked for leave”, says Bolsonaro about Pedro Guimarães, former president of Caixa

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) commented on Monday (4) the removal of former Caixa Econômica Federal president Pedro Guimarães, the target of allegations of sexual and moral harassment.

When asked by a supporter if he had anything to say about the “case of harassment at Caixa”, Bolsonaro said that the former president of the bank “has already been removed”. Soon after, the president himself corrected himself. “Or rather, he asked for leave,” he said in front of the Alvorada Palace.

The president did not elaborate on the case. Guimarães was close to the Chief Executive and often participated in the lives held by Bolsonaro. The resignation of Pedro Guimarães was made official last Wednesday (29). He has been in office since the beginning of the current government in 2019.

Guimarães is accused of having sexually and morally harassed several bank employees.

The case is being investigated by the Public Ministry of Labor (MPT). This Monday (4), the MPT carried out an inspection at the state-owned company’s headquarters. According to the CNN the objective was to verify in loco the allegations of sexual and moral harassment presented by bank employees against the institution’s former president.

Bolsonaro was also questioned by supporters about the cancellation of the meeting with the president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, scheduled for this Monday (4), in Brasília. “Because I canceled. It is answered”, said the chief executive.

THE CNN the president had stated that he decided to cancel the agenda with the Portuguese because he “would have a meeting with Lula”.
