He was last seen walking his two dogs near his home, according to authorities. Both dogs then returned home without Rudy.
The Texas Center for Missing Persons said Saturday that Mr. Farias has been “located safe and recovering in hospital.”
The reasons for his disappearance remain unknown, but family members said he suffered from depression, particularly after the death of his older brother in a motorcycle accident years before his disappearance, according to the NBC.
“He was watching his best friend die right in front of him,” Brenda Paradise, a private investigator hired by the Farias, said in April 2015.
“His brother was his best friend in the world. He’s just been through a lot more than anyone his age ever should,” Paradise added.
Police at the time did not suspect any criminal activity.
“This family has been through so much,” Ms Paradise said.
