“He guided the whole family”, says Ziraldo’s youngest brother

Family members of Ziraldo They went, this Saturday (6), to the apartment where the cartoonist lived for more than 20 years in Rio de Janeiro. The artist passed away while sleeping at his home, on Saturday afternoon.

Before entering the building, Ziraldo's brothers spoke to the press about the illustrator's importance to the family. The firstborn of seven children, Ziraldo left a huge mark on his youngest children.

“He guided the entire family, because, in the end, all of us, brothers, nephews, in a certain way, drink from this source, we follow Ziraldo a lot. It was exciting, it was an incredible life. I think we have to celebrate and continue celebrating”, said Ziraldo's younger brother and designer, Gê Pinto.

He was honored by the cartoonist with the character “Coelhinho Geraldinho” in “Turma do Pererê”. Gê classified the chance to be Ziraldo's brother as a “privilege”.

“Being his brother was a privilege. Being close, having followed his career… There were nights I spent watching him work in front of me. By his side I learned a lot, I got to know a lot. Seeing the genius happening in front of me was fantastic,” he added.

Excited, Maria Elisa, better known as Santinha, was moved when talking about her brother.

“He was a great brother. He was my friend, my companion, my father, my partner. I am the first girl born, and he is the first boy. So, he was the one who took care of me. (…) We have a very strong bond.”, said Santinha.
