Iwao Hakamada, an 88-year-old man from Japan who spent 46 years on death row, was acquitted today, Thursday 9/26 by a Shizuoka court after a review of his trial. Joao Hakamada, the prisoner who has spent the most years on death row in the world, was accused of murdering his boss and three members of the latter’s family in 1966. Two years later he was sentenced to death. From the beginning of the hearing, the judge stated that the court believes that the accused “is innocent”.
