“He welcomed everyone,” says Monja Coen about Papa Francisco

In Pope Francis’ farewell week, Buddhist Leader Monja Coen spoke to CNN on the importance of the pontiff. Regardless of belief, she highlighted her humility and the interreligious dialogue made by him.

The nun also pointed out the changes that Francis implemented in the Catholic Church.

Coen said Francis’ interreligious gaze was the most important point of his papacy. “This welcome to people of different traditions, he welcomed everyone. He had contact with people of all spiritual traditions, the leaders of my Japanese spiritual tradition were also in the Vatican,” says the nun.

“Part of the function of the Catholic Church is to welcome everyone, there is this expansion of not telling only I save, I only have the truth, there are several ways to manifest, cultural ways, to talk about the sacred,” explains the Buddhist leader.

Francis The humility was also remembered and his attitudes and behavior that according to the nun, followed the teachings of Jesus. “Francisco since he rose to the papacy, he didn’t want the golden cross with brilliant, I didn’t want red velvet shoe,” says Coen.

He chose to be buried in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore which is of his devotion. He chose this simple chapel, chose a place on the floor, which shows his humility, which is the fundamental gesture of a Christian

The choice of burial site was seen as cohesive with the personality of the pontiff. “We see him smiling many times, he sees him crying, sad with the wars, is a man who is very sensitive to the pains of the world, so he is so close to Mary,” explains the Buddhist leader.

The weight of Francisco’s position, responsibilities such as Pope and fighting abuse in the Catholic Church was seen as one of the factors that affected his health during his 12 years of papacy. “Did you see how he aged? How heavy is this position, how quickly your health has been deteriorating, not only for over -activity, but for the weight you carry,” explains the nun.

“The things that happened in the church, of abuse in every way, financial, physical, sexual and he was the one who came into this direction so that it would no longer happen. He went against many people who thought everything was fine,” he explains.

“The last sermons he made were for peace, the harmony of peoples, respect for nature, the inclusion of the original peoples, I thought it was a wonderful papacy,” concludes Buddhist Monja Coen leader.
