A pan-European gas price cap is needed to tackle price fluctuations and curb volatility in the gas and electricity markets, said today the CEO of the French energy company Engie Kathryn McGregor.
“As a matter of urgency, I think it is really important to consider imposing a ceiling on wholesale gas prices at European level. This will make it possible to reduce volatility,” McGregor told a panel organized by the French government.
“We have never reached such levels before,” she said, referring to recent increases in European gas prices. “I think that is why it justifies a measure, a ceiling. We are in unusual circumstances.”
