On Wednesday morning (2) the Minister of the Civil House, Ciro Nogueira, told CNN that the building of the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB), in Brasília, will be the transitional seat of the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The institution is a special place in the country’s capital and its building is named after a former president: Tancredo Neves (1910-1985) from Minas Gerais.
The building is a project by architect Oscar Niemeyer, one of the main names in modern architecture and one of the idealizers of Brasília. It was built in the late 1980s to house the bank’s people management area and its lines are in harmony with the city’s modernist style. The transformation of the space, which has more than 6 thousand m², into a cultural center took place in October 2000.
Right at the CCBB reception, the public is faced with a large panel that occupies the entire wall on the right with white reliefs on a blue background. The work is by the French-Brazilian artist who lives in Olinda, Marianne Peretti. The artist’s works can be seen in several monuments in Brasília.
According to the CCBB Heritage and Memory website, Marianne is considered the greatest stained glass artist in Brazil and was the only woman to be part of Niemeyer’s team. “Its panels harmonize with the modern architectural proposal, relativizing the limits of space and allowing the passage of light”, says the website.
In addition to theater and cinema plays, the CCBB also has an important collection with several names in Brazilian visual arts. Opened in October 2016, the BB Museum – Acervos do Brasil is an important space in the cultural scene of Brasília and permanently presents the public with historical moments of the Brazilian economy as well as works of art from different periods of the country. There are 76 works by artists such as Di Cavalcanti, Tomie Ohtake, Carlos Scliar, Burle Marx and Athos Bulcão. The CCBB collection has a series of serigraphs on the artist’s paper.

Bulcão was one of the artists who most contributed to the construction of Brasilia’s cultural identity. He was a painter, sculptor, draftsman and architect, known mainly for his unpredictable patterns created for tiles. He collaborated with Niemeyer and his works are integrated into modernist architecture, with panels, murals and reliefs.
His works are present in buildings such as the National Congress, Chamber of Deputies, Cláudio Santoro National Theater, Itamaraty Palace, Jaburu Palace, Juscelino Kubitschek Memorial, Alvorada Palace Chapel and Sarah Kubitschek Hospital, citing only a few well-known spots in Brasília. They are also found in important museums in the country, especially in modernist art collections.
open gardens
The external area of CCBB Brasília is made up of open gardens, decorated with trees native to the cerrado and overlooking the lake paranoá and the bridge Juscelino Kubitschek . Concerts, orchestra performances, festivals in rive-in format and open-air cinema are held in the gardens.

The immense gardens house two permanent exhibitions, one of them, the Casulo works complex, is located close to the reception and food area of the CCBB; where children and adults can enjoy a green and open play area. The space is designed by Darlan Rosa, creator of the character Zé Gotinha. During the day it is possible to see these works, made with perforated steel plate, which allows ventilation and prevents the retention of rainwater and at night, the sculptures, which have “translucent” characteristics, shine as if they had their own light, with the blue lighting that draws attention to the entire space.
The set of sensory works was inspired by spaces where children can play and interact. Also in the outdoor area is Améfrica, an interactive and scenic work that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.
Ziraldo and more attractions
In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the CCBB hosts temporary exhibitions. Since October, the institution has hosted the exhibition Zira World – Interactive Ziraldo which will occupy Gallery 3 and the Glass Pavilion, with free admission.
The exhibition pays tribute to the cartoonist, who turned 90 in October, where the public will be able to interact with the universe of his characters and with actions that stimulate creativity and a playful spirit. With an exclusive design and structure composed of large panels designed with characters and graphics by the artist, visitors can experience a true immersion in the Zira World. And whoever thinks that the attraction is for the little ones is wrong. Audiences of all ages can enjoy and find their loved one again Crazy boy friend of so many generations.
Until January 15, 2023, CCBB Brasília also hosts the exhibition Armorial Movement 50 Years a major exhibition that brings together art, musical encounters and conversations about the important artistic movement created and led by the playwright, teacher, painter and renowned writer Ariano Suassuna (1927-2014).
And until the next 20th, the institution has in its schedule the exhibition Form Does Not Meet Function by the sculptor Francisco Nuk , with his series of works that challenge the conventional gaze of everyday furniture. The works will be exhibited in the BB Museum Hall, located on the 1st floor.
