Health accelerates negotiations to get infant doses of Pfizer’s vaccine still in 2021

The Ministry of Health is running to get, still in 2021, the special doses of the Pfizer vaccine to immunize children from 5 to 11 years against Covid-19. The current contract guarantees another 100 million doses for people aged 12 and over, specifically.

Comirnaty’s special production, aimed at the age group from 5 to 11 years old, is still low, according to sources at the Ministry of Health. For 2022, the folder had already negotiated the forecast of these special doses in a third contract for over 100 million doses, with the possibility of another 50 million in the second half.

The challenge for the ministry, now, is to adjust this year’s contract with Pfizer regarding the amount of medication per dose. That’s because the dose for children is special, with 10 micrograms. For those over 12 years old, it is 30 micrograms.

The regulatory agency released a note saying that the proposal is to have different bottles, with specific dosage for each group. The weak will even have different colors.

The pharmaceutical’s request was filed this Friday (12), at the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), which has a period of 30 days to respond. In order to speed up the vaccination approval process in that age group, Pfizer had already sent the continuous submission documents
