The Ministry of Health announced this Friday (11) the contracting of another 2 million doses of pediatric vaccines from Pfizer.
The doses should arrive later this month to make it possible to advance in the vaccination of children. With the additive term, the number of Pfizer’s contracted doses intended for children aged 5 to 11 years reaches 22 million.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga. “We were able to anticipate another 2 million doses of Pfizer’s pediatric vaccine. This is an additional number to the contract we already had, of 20 million doses. These 2 million more will be delivered in February, precisely to speed up even more the vaccination campaign for our children”, said the minister.
To date, more than 17.2 million doses of vaccine have been distributed to states and the Federal District for the vaccination of children. Of this total, nearly 8 million are pediatric doses from Pfizer.
In all, 3.4 million children received the first dose, according to the Ministry of Health.
On December 16, the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) authorized the use of the Pfizer vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 years. Approval for the use of Coronavac in children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years took place on January 20, with restriction of application in immunosuppressed patients in this age group.
