The Ministry of Health ends, this Friday (3), the national vaccination campaigns against influenza (common flu) and measles.
This year, the mobilization was marked by the rates of adherence to immunization below the expectations of the ministry, according to data made available by the folder.
Low vaccination coverage can lead to an increase in the circulation of viruses that cause diseases and complications, especially for children and the elderly.
Influenza
This year, almost 80 million doses against the flu were distributed. Of this total, just over 27 million were applied in accordance with the lifting from the Ministry of Health available on the LocalizaSUS platform. The index represents a vaccination coverage of 44% of the audience composed of 77.9 million Brazilians.
The Ministry of Health stated, at the beginning of the campaign, that the expectation was to immunize 76.5 million people from the groups considered priority.
The campaign focused on children between six months and under five years of age, health workers, pregnant women, puerperal women, indigenous people, the elderly and teachers.
Measles
Measles immunization, on the other hand, was aimed at children between six months and under five years of age and health professionals. The Ministry of Health expected to vaccinate about 12.9 million children. However, just over 4 million received the immunizer – a vaccination coverage of 31.32%, according to the Dice of LocalizaSUS.
In the Unified Health System (SUS), the vaccine that protects against measles is the MMR, which also prevents mumps and rubella.
The vaccine, which is part of the National Vaccination Calendar, is available for people from 12 months to 59 years of age, with two doses being recommended up to 29 years and one dose from 30 to 50 years in unvaccinated people.
According to the Ministry of Health, more than 133,000 adolescents and 1.2 million health professionals also received the vaccine during this year’s campaign.
