Health recommends fourth dose against Covid-19 for immunosuppressed people aged 12 to 17

The Ministry of Health recommended, this Wednesday (9), the fourth dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 for immunosuppressed people between 12 and 17 years old. Immunization must be done with the Pfizer immunizer.

Included in the group are people with severe primary immunodeficiency, undergoing chemotherapy, who have undergone some type of organ or stem cell transplant, who are living with HIV/AIDS or undergoing hemodialysis.

There must be an interval of eight weeks between the first, second and additional dose. After completion of the initial regimen, there should be a time frame of four months for the new booster dose.

“The decision was based on scientific studies that show a reduction in the effectiveness of immunizations from four months after the completion of the vaccine cycle and on the need to strengthen immunity in groups that are more vulnerable to severe cases of Covid-19. Pfizer’s messenger RNA vaccine produces a greater immune response when used as a booster dose.

The recommendation of the fourth dose for people over 18 years was already indicated by the folder since December. However, for the public there is the alternative of applying the viral vector vaccine, from Janssen or AstraZeneca.

São Paulo will adopt fourth dose of vaccine “regardless of recommendation” from Health

The governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), said in an interview with Eldorado radio, this Wednesday, that the state will adopt the fourth dose of Covid-19 vaccine “regardless of whether or not there is a recommendation from the Ministry of Health”.

“Advancing in the second dose, we will be able to advance in the booster dose, the fourth dose, following an order of age group”, said the governor. “Yes, we are going to adopt the fourth dose in São Paulo, regardless of whether or not there is a recommendation from the Ministry of Health”, declared Doria.
