Heathrow, one of the busiest airports in the world, announced full closure on Friday after a power outage caused by a fire in a nearby substation.
The airport, located in London, receives millions of passengers in its terminals annually.
Last year, a record of 83.9 million passengers traveled through the Aviation Center, authorities said, a 6% increase in passenger growth over the previous year.
Earlier this year, the airport saw the busiest January ever registered, with an average of more than 200,000 passengers per day for 11 consecutive months.
More than 1.2 million people traveled between the UK and the US that month, an 8% increase compared to 2024, the airport said.
It was inaugurated in 1946 as London Airport. The first aircraft to take off from its aviation field was a converted Lancaster bomber named Starlight, which flew to Buenos Aires.
Today, more than 67 million passengers travel through the airport annually, with more than 90 airlines traveling to about 180 destinations in more than 90 countries, according to the airport.
Heathrow has six terminals, five open to the public and one specifically reserved for royalty and heads of state. Terminal five from the airport is the largest independent structure in the United Kingdom.
In addition to transporting passengers around the world, its cargo center transports lions to rhinos, exotic works of art and pieces for NASA International Space Station.
