Heatwave in Cyprus: Two dead and three in critical condition

According to the British Mirror newspaper, a Cypriot health official has confirmed that two people have died of heatstroke following a week-long heat wave. The island was hit by record temperatures for June, with over 40 degrees in places. An 84-year-old woman died a day after being admitted to hospital on Friday, State Health Services Agency spokesman Charalambos Charilaou said. He added that three other elderly patients remain in serious condition. Fires raging The incidents came as wildfires continue to rage across parts of the island, with strong winds also hampering firefighters’ efforts to battle the blazes.
