Heavy rain causes damage in more than 30 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul

As of Thursday morning (26), 31 of the 497 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul reported to Civil Defense some type of damage due to the heavy rains that hit the region.

In total, 305 people are homeless in six cities in the south of the state. Another 506 are displaced – that is, they had to leave their homes and seek shelter with friends or family.

According to the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET), the state is under two storm and rainfall warnings. The most alarming, with a severity level of high danger, affects the center-south of the state.

In the region, rainfall of more than 60 mm/h is expected and there is a high risk of flooding, river overflows and landslides. This alert is valid until 12 pm today (26).

In the rest of the state, INMET warns of a storm that could reach 60mm/h, with strong winds (100km/h) and possible hail. There is a risk of power outages, damage to crops, falling trees and flooding. The alert is also valid until noon this Thursday (26).
