Heavy sentences for two Russians accused of treason for the benefit of Ukraine

The judiciary of Russia announced today, Thursday 12/12, that it sentenced two men accused of treason for the benefit of Ukraine to heavy sentences of up to 22 years in prison, while the war with Kiev rages. Since the beginning of the Russian campaign in February 2022, trials for “treason”, “terrorism”, “sabotage” or “espionage”, which always come with heavy penalties, have multiplied in Russia. A resident of Zheleznogorsk, in the Kursk region, on the border with Ukraine, was sentenced to 22 years in prison for “assault” and “high treason”, according to an announcement by a regional military court. Ukrainian-born but Russian citizen Sergey Chernoky, 30, was accused of providing Ukrainian special services (SBU) with information on locations of local railway infrastructure from November 2023 to February 2024, according to the same source.
