Microsoft has recently begun more intensive distribution of its new operating system Windows 11. Meanwhile, users have discovered that the new OS inherited the problem of “thousands of empty folders” that has been observed in Windows 10 since 2019.

Users complain that the operating system creates hundreds to thousands of empty folders in the System32 directory.

If you check the folder in the system directory (C: Windows System32 config systemprofile AppData Local), you will find many empty tmp folders. Some of them can be hidden and in order to get a complete picture, it is necessary to activate the display of hidden files.
It is assumed that the folders are created by a tool named ProvTool.exe and can be deleted without any problems or consequences for the system. Littering aside, this glitch doesn’t seem to cause any problems with the PC.
