Heinz wants to buy boat for man who survived weeks lost at sea with ketchup

The sailor who spent weeks lost at sea in January, surviving in large part due to the ketchup consumption you may have a new state-of-the-art boat.

And the nice gift would be thanks to the ketchup giant Heinz who is trying to locate Elvis Francois.

The company posted a text to social media on Feb. 14 in hopes of tracking the sailor. According to Heinz’s social network, they have already contacted the government of Dominica, the island nation where Francois is from, as well as the Colombian navy, which rescued him northwest of Puerto Bolívar, Colombia.

But until now, none of the attempts to find Francois were successful. says Heinz.

Therefore, the ketchup retailer is now “asking the general public to try to assist in the search,” according to a statement shared with the company. CNN by email.

“We are also asking for credible leads to contact Elvis so we can help cover a new boat equipped with full navigation technology to avoid another disaster in the future,” the company added.

Heinz also suggested that fans use the English hashtag #findtheketchupboatguy to broaden their search.

Francois, 47, was repairing his boat near the Dutch part of the island of Saint Martin in December when it was pulled out to sea. He told Colombian authorities that he lacked the navigational knowledge to return to shore and had spent 24 days at sea. He survived on a bottle of ketchup, garlic powder, and cubes of Maggi’s stock, which he mixed with water.

He was rescued after a plane spotted his sailboat with the word “help” engraved on the hull, according to Colombian authorities.
