Delegate Paulo Sérgio Rios Campos Melo, director of the Department of Strategic Police Operations (Dope), of the São Paulo Civil Police, states that the helicopter with prefix PR-HDB, whose wreckage was found this Friday morning (12), crashed a few minutes after the emergency landing it had made in Paraibuna, in the Paraíba Valley. There were no survivors.
According to the delegate, the distance between the landing area and the place where the aircraft was found is approximately 10 kilometers. He stated, however, that, at the moment, it is not yet possible to define exactly how much time passed between the landing and the fall.
The Dope director added that, based on data obtained through the location of the cell phones of the four occupants of the aircraft, it was possible to conclude that the pilot, Cassiano Tete Teodoro, was trying to return to São Paulo, from where he had taken off shortly before, in the early afternoon of December 31st.
“He left [do local onde a aeronave havia pousado]he flew a little, he tried to escape the clouds to return to São Paulo and unfortunately he couldn’t”, says Campos Melo.
Colonel Ronaldo Barreto de Oliveira, head of the São Paulo Military Police Aviation Command, also stated that it is still not possible to clarify what caused the crash. However, he mentions that adverse weather conditions probably contributed to the accident.
“He [o piloto] You can get into bad weather, lose visibility and situational awareness and become disoriented. It’s common for those who inadvertently enter the cloud space,” he explains.
Passenger sent a message to her boyfriend and talked about landing
Young Letícia Rodzewics, 20 years old, who was on board the aircraft, sent her boyfriend on the afternoon of December 31st an image of the place where the equipment had landed because of the fog.
At the time, she didn't know where she was. But, investigations later revealed that the landing had been made in Paraibuna, close to the dam.
She also sent a video showing that there was a lot of fog where the aircraft was. Letícia said she was scared and said that the pilot was trying to return.
