Helicopter falls into the Hudson River in New York; Five people are rescued

A New York Fire Department spokesman reported that a helicopter crashed into the Hudson River on Pier 40. The accident happened at 3:17 pm local time.

Five people – three children and two adults – were rescued from the Hudson River and transported to hospitals, a police officer told the scene CNN . The health of these five individuals is not yet clear.

Rescue teams are still looking for one more person.

Search teams are in the water looking for the missing and any other people.

Several boats were seen gathered near Jersey City, not far from the sculpture “Water’s Soul.” A police helicopter was also at the scene. The New York Fire Department has confirmed that it is responding to the incident.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) reported that emergency teams were meeting on the Manhattan side, West Side Highway and Spring Street.
