Helium partners with Dish Network to expand 5G network

Helium’s Decentralized Network has partnered with Dish Network to expand the Helium 5G network in exchange for HNT rewards.

According to the Helium blog post, Dish Network users will be able to run Helium Nodes and earn HNT. Users will receive rewards for sharing their 5G hotspots with those around them.

Dish Network is one of the largest cable TV operators in the United States and the first operator to integrate Helium 5G into its ecosystem. Helium COO Frank Mong spoke about the implications of this collaboration for Helium:

“We understand the potential blockchain has for the communications industry. This partnership will test whether the HNT incentive model is a powerful tool for scaling infrastructure. Together with Dish and FreedomFi, Helium 5G will benefit from broader reach and the customer benefit from the flywheel of network incentives and applications, ”he said.

The Helium network has over 256,000 nodes and 93,560 users worldwide. Following a community vote in April, the addition of a second 5G-enabled network was approved through a partnership with FreedomFi. Helium now offers users support for smartphones, tablets and laptops.

Recall that in May last year, China Telecom, a leading Chinese telecommunications company, integrated blockchain into 5G systems to improve the efficiency of revenue distribution, billing and payments.
