Hellenic Cables supplies inter-array cables for Dominion Energy’s Offshore Wind project

Hellenic Cables, the cable division of Cenergy Holdings, announces the successful completion of the cable construction and loading project, following the contract awarded to it by Dominion Energy for the partial supply of inter-array cables for the Coast Virginia Offshore Wind project ( CVOW).

The goal of this project is to provide approximately 2.6 GW of clean energy from offshore wind farms, increasing the amount of electricity from renewable sources in Virginia’s US households. The project will have many economic and environmental benefits for the Hampton Roads area, while at the same time being a viable but necessary opportunity for the entire state of Virginia to obtain clean energy and achieve its economic and environmental goals.

Hellenic Cables was responsible for the design, supply and storage of approximately 50 km of XLPE-insulated 66 kV submarine inter-array cables, which connect the wind turbines to the offshore substation.

The construction of the cables in the state-of-the-art submarine cable production facilities of Hellenic Cables in Corinth lasted for a long time.

“We are proud to support Dominion Energy in this iconic project, one of the first commercial offshore wind farms in the US, with our world-class expertise in cable design and construction. This project also marks our contribution to “an effort to transition to clean energy in Virginia, the United States and the planet,” said Alexis Alexiou, CEO of Cenergy Holdings and Hellenic Cables.

“Hellenic Cables is a world leader in the industry and its many years of experience will help us deliver clean renewable energy to our customers in Virginia,” said Joshua Bennett, Dominion Energy Vice President of Offshore Wind Energy.

With this assignment, Hellenic Cables further consolidates its presence in the US offshore wind energy market, following the launch of the Mayflower Wind project in early 2020 for the construction of inter-array cables. In addition, the founding of Hellenic Cables America Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary, provides the company’s clients in the US with immediate support and know-how throughout the life of their projects.
