The Hellenic-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry awarded certificates to those who attended the “Energy Scouts” 2021 program for energy saving in companies, during a hybrid event held on December 8, at the Stavros Foundation Cultural Center.
The award ceremony was preceded by a four-day seminar on energy saving, which took place under the Young Energy Europe program of the European Climate Initiative (EUKI).
During the event, completed works were presented by employees of the companies Agricultural Solutions OE, Domiki Kritis SA, ELVAL Color, Samaras & Associates SA – Consulting Engineers, Power Sales and Smart Mart Systems. The work concerned the possibilities of reducing energy costs, resource use and the CO2 footprint, thus contributing to climate protection.
The Energy Scouts, who were distinguished for their innovative idea and won a trip to Berlin as a prize, were Ms. Angeliki Samara and Mr. Konstantinos Kaltsoukalas from “Samaras & Associates SA – Consulting Engineers”. Their presentation was entitled “Eco friendly catering” and focused on the problem of food waste. The two young Energy Scouts proposed the creation of a sustainable catering service aimed at reducing their company’s Environmental Impact.
Earlier, in her greeting the Secretary General of Energy and Mineral Raw Materials, of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Ms. Alexandra Sdoukou, stressed that “thanks to the ‘Energy Scouts’ initiative, young professionals in many European countries are learning to analyze the use of energy in corporate spaces and to develop practical projects to reduce the consumption of energy resources.
It is a mutually beneficial program for companies and trainees “because, as Ms. Sdoukou noted,” companies leverage employee knowledge to become more sustainable and young professionals gain valuable experience from introducing and implementing innovative ideas and solutions. Thus, the new generation, which now assumes positions of responsibility in the corporate world, ensures the confidence and knowledge to optimally manage the issues of environmental protection and efficient use of energy resources “.
Speaking on behalf of the Central Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK), Ms. Carmen Struck referred to the goals and expectations of the project and noted that in addition to Greece, Young Energy Europe, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Protection and Nuclear Safety (BMU) is implemented simultaneously in Hungary, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Poland, Croatia and Slovakia.
Earlier, the General Manager & Board Member of the Hellenic-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Athanasios Kelemis, opening the event with a short greeting referred to the actions that promote environmental sensitivity and green entrepreneurship, which, as he said, are a necessity in the current environment of a company. Mr. Kelemis congratulated the participants “Energy Scouts” for their interest in attending an innovative training program for energy saving in the company and climate protection.
It is noted that the bids were evaluated by a committee of experts, consisting of Mr. George Ageridis, Director of Energy Efficiency of CRES, Mr. Christos Nikoloudis, Head of Research Unit of Economic Environment and Sustainable Development of NTUA and Business Director Vassilis Sakas, R&D Dept.-Energy Group of European Dynamics.
This cycle of seminars was held in collaboration with and with the support of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EVEA), the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and the KEK Technical Schools of the Heraklion Chamber.
The next cycle of the “Energy Scouts” training program will be announced in early 2022.
