Hellenic-German Chamber: The supply chain sector can contribute to the strengthening of Greece’s role in SE Europe

Eight Greek logistics companies participated in a business mission for the logistics sector, organized by the Hellenic-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on June 7-9, in two major cities in Spain with developed Freight Centers, Barcelona and Zaragoza.

In particular, according to an announcement, the business delegation was attended by the leaders and senior executives of Goldair Cargo, Intertrans, Elikon Transport, Orphee Beinoglou, Italy Lines, DS Hellas, PTL and SFAIRA Athens.

This initiative of the Hellenic-German Chamber aimed to familiarize the participating companies with the combined transport infrastructure in Spain, to acquire know-how and good practices, to exchange experiences, as well as to network with Spanish companies in the field.

In Barcelona, ​​the business delegation visited the Port Authority of the largest Spanish port and one of the most important in the Mediterranean, was informed about its organization and operations and toured its impressive facilities, half of which are fully automated and expand its infrastructure for cruise ships. He also had the opportunity to meet the largest combined freight center in Catalonia CIMALSA and talk with executives of CEVA Logistics.

In Zaragoza he visited the specialized private Training Center for the logistics sector Zaragoza Logistics Center, which operates in collaboration with MIT, carries out important research work and provides high quality Master and Phd programs preparing senior supply chain management executives. He also toured the PLAZA Logistics Center, where 400 companies are located, many of which have large investments in warehouses, visited JCV Shipping and the TMZ Freight Center, the largest in Spain, which operates as an extension of the Port. Barcelona inland in the form of PPPs.

As noted, the supply chain sector can actively contribute to strengthening Greece’s role in the wider region of Southeastern Europe and as a gateway for international freight flows to European markets. This mission is part of the work of the logistics committee of the Hellenic-German Chamber, which among other things has organized a corresponding mission in the ports of Hamburg and Bremen as well as the National Pavilion at the International Transport Logistic Exhibition in Munich.
