Hellenic Gold, consistent with the principles of Responsible Mining, continued its investments in 2021 in social and environmental projects in the Municipality of Aristotle, implementing more than 20 projects and over 50 social responsibility actions with a total value of 1.3 million . euro.

Next to the residents
In collaboration with the Municipal Authority, Ellinikos Chrysos undertook the implementation of important infrastructure projects, such as the restoration of the Olympiada-Barbara road axis (worth over 300,000 euros) which suffered severe damage in the severe bad weather of 2020. At the same time, it implemented a series of local maintenance works infrastructure and buildings (eg community facilities, schools, road network) and undertook the costs of repair and maintenance of vehicles and machinery of the municipality.
In view of the residents’ access to a perfect health system in their place, great importance was given to the support of the local primary health care system for which Hellenic Gold covered the staffing costs of the Community Clinics in Stratoni and Olympiada, a project worth 50,000 euros.
The total investment for the above projects amounted to 600,000 euros which, in addition to the immediate improvement of the daily life of the citizens, gave a significant breath to the budget of the Municipality.
Caring for the environment
Within 2021, Hellenic Gold completed another part of the extensive environmental rehabilitation program that it has been preparing for a number of years for the cleaning of land areas from mining uses of previous properties. In this context, he handed over to the local community a new natural area of 30 acres that for decades was a place of arsenic deposition with an impact on the local environment.
Contributing to the maintenance of a clean and healthy image of the residential tissues of the municipality, Elliniko Chrysos donated a new garbage truck worth 250,000 euros to the Municipality of Aristotle, covering costs and logistical equipment for the cleaning services of the municipality, while ensuring the safe collection of animals. donation of a vehicle worth 20,000 euros.
In addition, for the protection of the country’s forest wealth, Hellenic Gold cooperated with the New Aeroclub of Thessaloniki for the aerial surveillance of the forests of the area throughout the fire season, while standing next to the fire-affected areas of Attica, with overall support 30,000 euros.

With a view to the new generation that will create the future of the region, Hellenic Gold emphasized the support of the education sector with two important actions:
Undertook and completed the renovation of 7 schools in the area and installed a water filtration system in all schools of the Municipality of Aristotle. This is a project with a total value of 180,000 euros that facilitates the daily life of the students of the Municipality so that they can focus on what is most important: their learning process.
In addition, the robotics & STEAM program for the students of the area was continued for the 4th consecutive year, in collaboration with Eduact, an investment of 80,000 euros that cultivates in students important skills and knowledge for the future, developing their critical thinking.
Sustainable development report
The above actions complement the extensive work that has been implemented in recent years in the region with investments of over 24 million euros for support projects in the local community. It is worth noting that, as mentioned in the recently published Sustainable Development Report 2019-2020, Hellenic Gold allocated a total of – and despite the difficult financial situation of the company – 6% of its net profits in social investments, which is one of the highest percentages of social investment in the wider industry.
