Hello, vacation! Check out 10 movies and series to watch with your kids

The July holidays are here and with them comes more time at home with the kids. One way to enjoy it with the little ones is to binge-watch series and movies that are available on the main streaming services.

From older works to newer ones, from animations to live-actions, CNN has selected a variety of productions for the whole family to play during these holidays. Check it out!

“Home Alone” (1990)

Eight-year-old Kevin is a troublemaker who was accidentally left home alone by his family during the Christmas holidays. Now, the boy must use his creativity to protect his home from a pair of clumsy burglars.

“The Lion King” (1994)

The first film in the “Lion King” franchise turns 30 in 2024. There’s nothing better than reliving the saga during the holidays. A Disney classic, the animated film follows Mufasa, the Lion King, and Queen Sarabi, introducing the heir to the throne, Simba, to the kingdom. The newborn receives the blessing of the wise baboon Rafiki, but as he grows up he becomes involved in the schemes of his uncle Scar, Mufasa’s envious and Machiavellian brother, who plans to get rid of his nephew and inherit the throne.

“Ice Age 3” (2009)

Manny and Ellie are expecting their first child. Sid finds some dinosaur eggs, which gives him his own adoptive family. The theft, however, gets him into trouble. The creatures’ mother takes them and Sid to an underground world where dinosaurs still exist, which forces Manny, Ellie and Diego to go on a search to rescue him.

“Jorel’s Brother” (2014)

Four-season animated series, featuring a shy, nameless boy who is always called Jorel’s brother. Almost always overshadowed by his older brother’s fame and popularity, he tries to gain his own identity and be someone important in the family.

“Trollhunters” (2016)

After discovering a mysterious amulet, a teenager encounters a secret civilization of powerful trolls beneath the small town of Arcadia. The animated series has three seasons.

“Viva – Life is a Party” (2018)

The plot features Miguel, a 12-year-old boy who wants to be a famous musician, but has to deal with his family who disapprove of his dream. Determined to turn things around, he ends up triggering a series of events linked to a 100-year-old mystery. The adventure, inspired by the Mexican holiday of the Day of the Dead, ends up generating an extraordinary family reunion.

“Monica’s Gang – Ties” (2019)

A live-action version of the famous story from Maurício de Souza’s comics, the Turma da Mônica film focuses on the plot of Floquinho’s disappearance. To find his pet dog, Cebolinha relies on his friends Cascão, Mônica and Magali and, of course, a foolproof plan.

“Red: Growing Up is a Beast” (2022)

Bringing great family reflections, the animation features a teenager who, whenever she gets nervous, turns into a giant red panda.

“Formula Dreams” (2024)

The new Brazilian documentary series tells the story of Antonella, Heitor, Wagner, Gabriel and Murilo, who share the same dream: to be the next Brazilian Formula 1 star. There are ten episodes that show details of the story of a group of children aged between 8 and 12, who grow up in the high-speed environment of competitive karting.

“Light” (2024)

The children’s series celebrates indigenous peoples and tells the story of Luz, an orphan girl raised in the Kaingang indigenous community. When she turns nine, she runs away from the village and ends up in one of the most expensive boarding schools in Brazil. “Luz” currently has only one season.
