The body of writer Heloisa Teixeira, who died on Friday (28), at the age of 85, will be veiled at the headquarters of Brazilian Academy of Letters (GLA) in Rio de Janeiro, this Saturday (29). The ceremony takes place from 15h to 19h.
On site, will be displayed the documentary “Helô, made by his son Lula Buarque”. On Sunday (30), there will be a wake for family and friends, from 11am to 1pm, at the penitentium crematorium, in Cashew, North Zone of Rio de Janeiro.
Literary criticism died on Friday as a result of acute respiratory failure caused by pneumonia. Death was confirmed by GLA.
The writer was born on July 26, 1939, in Ribeirão Preto (SP). Heloisa was at the head of the University of Breaks. According to ABL, criticism was concerned with the democratization of knowledge.
“Always attentive to contemporary and moved by the novelty, he dialted his whole life with young people in activism, poetry, arts and cultural studies. As the result of this conversation on several fronts, he published feminist explosion,” the company recalled in a statement released on Friday.
In an interview with Veja magazine, Heloisa said that after spending part of her life using the last name Buarque de Hollanda, her late husband, she decided to move to Teixeira. According to the writer, the change was a kind of reunion with her mother, who died a few years ago and had the surname on the certificate.
“It was with the new signature, recorded on the skin, that the writer became immortal of the Brazilian Academy of Letters,” said the GLA.
Since July 2024, the writer had occupied chair number 30 of the gym. Heloisa was the author of the work “26 Poets Today”, launched in 1976, during the military dictatorship. The book brought together the main counterculture names of the time, bringing an irreverent and combative selection to the regime.
