Former Rio de Janeiro councilor, Jairo Souza dos Santos Júnior, Dr. Jairinho, and teacher Monique Medeiros, respectively stepfather and mother of 4-year-old boy Henry Borel, will be questioned this Wednesday (9) by Judge Elizabeth Machado Louro, of the 2nd Criminal Court of the Capital, of the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro.
The interrogation is part of the continuation of the instruction and trial hearing, in which the two are accused of torture and the boy’s death.
According to the complaint, the child was the victim of torture carried out by Dr. Jairinho, in the apartment where he lived with the couple, in Barra da Tijuca, West Zone of Rio, on March 8, 2021. Jairinho will be the first defendant to be be heard, right after the testimony of the witnesses (delegates).
On Monday afternoon (08), Judge Elizabeth Machado denied the request of Jairinho’s new lawyers (Lúcio Adolfo, Telmo Bernardo, Eric de Sá Trotte and Bruno Albernaz) who asked for the postponement of his and Monique’s interrogation. In the petition, the lawyers also explained that they were recently hired for the case.
In January of that year, another request by Monique’s defense, for her to go under house arrest, was also denied by the judge. At the time, Henry’s mother’s lawyers claimed that Monique was being threatened in prison, but the court denied the request.
The first stages of the instruction and trial hearing were held in October and December of last year, when witnesses for the defense and prosecution, as well as lawyers, from both parties, gave testimony in court.
The list includes 63 witnesses including the prosecution and defense, in addition to police officers, experts, relatives of the victim and defendants and people who worked in the apartment where Henry lived with his mother and stepfather.
