Henry case: Justice resumes hearing to hear witnesses about boy’s death

It will be held, this Tuesday (14), at the 2nd Criminal Court of the Capital of Rio de Janeiro, the continuation of the hearing to hear witnesses in the process on the death of the boy Henry Borel.

The forecast is that two other witnesses for the prosecution and those for the defense will be heard during Tuesday and Wednesday (15).

Among the possible deponents, both for the prosecution and the defense, are Henry’s maternal grandmother, Rosângela Medeiros da Costa e Silva; Jairinho’s father, Jairo Souza Santos, Colonel Jairo; the hairdresser Tereza Cristina dos Santos.

Unlike the first phase of the process, in which he followed the depositions remotely, the expectation is that today the former councilor Dr. Jairinho will be present at the hearing.

Judge Elizabeth Machado Louro, from the 2nd Criminal Court of the Capital, opened the hearing on October 6th with the testimony of ten witnesses for the prosecution during more than 14 hours of hearing.

They were heard at the first hearing on October 6th:

• Delegate Edson Henrique Damasceno, responsible for the investigation
• Delegate Ana Carolina de Caldas, assistant of the 16th DP
• Civil Police Officer Rodrigo Melo, who participated in the hearings and proceedings of the case
• Leniel Borel de Almeida Júnior, father of the boy Henry
• Ana Carolina Ferreira Netto, ex-wife of Jairinho
• Pablo dos Santos Menezes, Executive of Instituto D’Or
• Thayná de Oliveira Ferreira, nanny to the boy Henry
• Maria Cristina de Souza Azevedo, doctor at Barra D’or
• Viviane dos Santos Rosa, doctor at Barra D’or
• Fabiana Barreto Goulart Deleage, doctor at Barra D’or

Henry case

Henry Borel, four years old, died at dawn on March 8, 2021, at Hospital Barra D’or, in Barra da Tijuca, west of Rio de Janeiro. The boy was taken to the unit by his mother, Monique Medeiros, and her boyfriend, then councilor Dr. Jairinho (Jairo Souza dos Santos Júnior).

At the time, the then couple claimed that the child was found passed out in the room where he slept. According to the institution’s doctors, the boy arrived at the hospital with a cardiopulmonary arrest. According to the police, the child was the victim of torture carried out by Dr. Jairinho, in the apartment where they lived, in Barra da Tijuca, West Zone of Rio. The couple has been in prison since April of this year.
