Henry’s mother is removed from her position at the Rio Education Department

Henry’s mother, Monique Medeiros, was removed from her position at the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Department of Education.

The decision, published in the official gazette of the municipality this Wednesday (25), took place by resolution of Secretary Renan Ferreirinha and was made official by decree of Mayor Eduardo Paes.

The public servant of the City Hall of Rio de Janeiro is defendant for the death of her own son, Henry Borel, 4 years old, on March 8, 2021. Former councilor Jairo Souza Santos Junior, known as Dr. Jairinho, with whom Monique was dating at the time, is also responsible for the crime.

According to the police, the boy died after being attacked by Jairinho. The former councilor and the child’s mother deny that there was any aggression.

Medeiros’ removal will take place until the conclusion of the administrative process to which the servant responds. During this period, however, she continues to receive a salary, which is around R$ 3.1 thousand net.

“I personally think it’s absurd to have to pay someone who doesn’t work, but we’re complying with the law,” declared Ferreirinha.

Monique Medeiros had been on leave at the Secretariat of Education since April 2021, when she was arrested. After her arrest was revoked by the Superior Court of Justice, she asked to return to activities and the request was accepted.

The server returned to work on December 12 of last year. However, she began to perform an administrative role in the secretariat’s warehouse, far from the schools.

The day after her return to the secretariat was made public, Monique filed a request for removal for psychological reasons. “The document requested removal for a period of 60 days, but was rejected by the technical body of the city hall’s expertise,” said Ferreirinha.

In addition, the secretariat verified inconsistencies in the server’s time sheet. Therefore, a new investigation was opened in order to investigate possible irregular conduct.

Secretary Ferreirinha said, on Sunday (22), that, if it were up to him, Monique Medeiros would have been fired a long time ago, but that was not possible because of the “delay of Justice” in Brazil.
