An elderly woman was found dead inside the house where she lived after a fire broke out, at the junction of Skounti and Paliani Monastery, in the center of Heraklion.
In particular, shortly after 08:00, the neighbors noticed the smoke coming from the house and informed the Fire Department. Two fire trucks immediately rushed to the scene with nine men who attempted and located the unfortunate woman unconscious. An ambulance with EKAB crew arrived at the spot where the woman’s death was confirmed.
The causes of the fire are being investigated by the Investigative Department of the Fire Brigade, while a medical examiner is expected at the scene. Disturbance prevailed in the area, as it is one of the most densely populated areas of the city.
