Hezbollah shoots down Israeli drone on Lebanese border

An Israeli plane without a pilot was shot down over Lebanese territory by a surface-to-air missile this Saturday (01), the Israeli military said. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the interception.

In a statement, Hezbollah said it shot down a Hermes 900 drone in solidarity with Gaza, where Israel is fighting a nearly eight-month war against Hamas, another Iranian-backed militant group.

A video circulating online appeared to show a drone the size of a Hermes, on fire and spinning toward the earth.

Clouds of smoke were seen near the border between Israel and Lebanon this Saturday (1), after rockets fired from Lebanon hit the city on the Israeli border.

Exchanges of fire between armed groups in Lebanon and the Israeli military have increased in recent days. Hezbollah deployed new types of rockets against Israel and launched a drone attack that was the most penetrated into Israeli territory since October.
