The actors Corbin Blue, 35, and Lucas Gabreel, 39, revealed that the famous scene from “High School Musical 2″ (2006) in which they perform the song “I Don’t Dance” and, at the end, appear with changed clothes was the idea of the director, Kenny Ortega.
“[Ele] had the improvised idea at the last minute. We had already done one take of that scene, and he did his [gesto] usual and said, ‘Change your clothes,’” Bleu said.
The statement was given to the Canadian website ETalkTV last week. In the scene in question, the characters Chad and Ryan perform the song “I Don’t Dance” during a baseball game. The song is about Ryan (Lucas Gabreel) challenging Chad (Corbin Bleu) to participate in the talent show.
At the end of the issue, the two appear with their clothes changed. The situation generated fan theories about what may have happened between the characters.
The pair joked about the theories and said there had already been “so many insinuations, that this was just the nail in the coffin”.
Gabreel added that the costume swap also symbolized that “there is no good side, there is no bad side; the theater kids and the athletes can all be on the same team.”
