March 2024 was the warmest March ever recorded globally, joining a string of consecutive high temperature records over the past ten months, the European Copernicus Observatory announced today, also setting a new monthly absolute temperature record in seas of the earth. A consequence of this unbroken streak of record highs is that “the global average temperature over the past 12 months is the hottest on record” and is “1.58°C above pre-industrial levels” due to the decades of emissions that cause the phenomenon of the greenhouse. Its consequences intensify from mid-2023 due to the El Niño phenomenon, said Samantha Burgess, the deputy director of the climate change service (C3S) at the European Copernicus observatory, according to the Athens Agency.
