The Robotics Team Found its First Client
At the beginning of this month Sequoyah High School found its newest 38 year old client, Pete Peeks. He claimed that his right hand has not been working at all since birth and even doing the smallest tasks was beyond his imagination.
Because of the designs created by the Robotics Team of Sequoyah High School, Peeks was able to function both his hands. He appreciated the team and mentioned that he can now hang Christmas lights around his house, and also hold a drink, which is a great feeling. He said the team’s eagerness to remodel people’s lives is clearly a perfect representation of humans helping humans. They properly measured specific areas of the hand so that the prosthesis would fit perfectly. And after a few weeks, he said, his prototype was ready to be tried on.
Since this creation does not cost much it is easily accessible to everyone in need, and prosthesis can be further customized according to the customer’s body.
Their teacher Brent Holler, informed that the uniqueness of this whole project is that it is computerized and that is why it is easier to work faster. Their target is to do away with these customers and take on more clients through the Christmas break. The students are said to continue their work while Americans congregate for winter holidays. Daniel McCrobie, one of the Robotics team member said that not only clients, but also the students are acknowledging the ways in which technology can change the world. The students have been taking advantage of the manufactures by noticing the difficulties such people face.
It is said that back then, Hollers had been searching for an enthusiastic student to link with e-NABLE -a global organization of participants that utilizes their 3D printers to make prosthetic upper limb devices for people in need for free, and Daniel McCrobie had the desire to practice biomechanical engineering. Henceforth, Hollers and the 25 students from the Robotics Team of Sequoyah High School came together to work.
According to McCrobie ‘the legacy of giving is something’ and he says that his expectations will only grow when after his graduation, the robotics team picks up and acknowledges where he left off. Holler further informs that the team is preparing documents to hand them to the future members of the Robotics Team. The current team tends to help its future community so that they learn and after graduating, they should as well give back to their community.
