Hiker missing for two weeks in Zion National Park found safely, family says

A California woman, Holly Suzanne Courtier, 38 that went missing for at Zion National Park in Utah, for about twelve days, has been safely rescued and reunited with her family on Sunday.

Before being found, the woman was last seen on October 6, being dropped off by private shuttle into the park’s Grotto area. According to officials, she was scheduled to take the shuttle bus later that day, however she wasn’t seen.

Her vanishing provoked different inquiry and search efforts that become more difficult considering the fact that the Courtier didn’t have a mobile phone and her a travel plan wasn’t know. Holly was declared ‘’missing” on 8th of October, and the search started the next day. Her vehicle was found in Springdale, a nearby town, at the park’s southwest entrance, early in the search, Zion officials had said.

Kailey Chambers, Holly Suzanne daughter told CBS Los Angeles last week that, after her mother lost her job due to the coronavirus, she had been traveling the country in a converted van after. She described her as an “experienced hiker” that was familiar with Zion National Park.

“I know she would not give up on me, so I refuse to give up on her,” Chambers told the TV station. “I don’t care if I’m the only person on the trail looking for her, I’m not going to stop until I find her.”

The National Park Service said in a news release that she was located by Park rangers after receiving a “credible tip from a park visitor”, who notified them that they saw her within the park.

“We are overjoyed that she was found safely today,” her family said. “We would like to thank the rangers and search teams who relentlessly looked for her day and night and never gave up hope. We are also so grateful to the countless volunteers who were generous with their time, resources and support. This wouldn’t have been possible without the network of people who came together.”

“Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone’s continued support and prayers! Details on her rescue are limited right now, and we will update you when we have all the information,” Jamie Strong, Courtier’s sister, said in an update shared on GoFundMe.

Officials with Zion National Park thanked the Washington County Sheriff Office, Grand Canyon National Park Emergency Service Team, K-9 units from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah Search Dogs Search and Rescue Teams, Lake Mead National Recreation Area Park rangers, and the volunteers and staff members that helped with the search.
