Remember the case
One adult jaguar also known in Brazil as Suçuarana Onça, was rescued on the morning of Monday (29) after being run over at kilometer 87 of BR-153, located near São José do Rio Preto, in the interior of São Paulo.
The feline was hit by a Toyota Hilux pickup truck. According to information, the animal dragged on to the water flow channel in the highway domain. The jaguar had serious injuries such as fractures and various scratches on the body.
After the location of the jaguar by agents of the Federal Highway Police (PRF), a team from the São José do Rio Preto Zoobotanical was fired and the animal seduced through tranquilizing darts. Then the Fire Department welcomed and transported the feline to the operating room of the site, where it will receive specialized treatment.
The PRF also reported that the population should not rescue wild animals injured on their own.
“In situations like this, the ideal is to signal the site to avoid further accidents and immediately trigger the Federal Highway Police by calling 191. Animals in suffering can react aggressively, representing risks to the physical integrity of those who try to manipulate them without proper preparation,” concludes the corporation in a statement.
