Hinge: the dating app that lets you find the right partner at the first meeting (or almost)

How many dates did you go on dating apps before finding the right partner? Hinge, recently available also for Italy, is the new application that aims to be canceled already at the first appointment. An ambitious promise but possible thanks to a skilful mix between technology and human psychology.

“We are all born knowing how to love, but not how to date. While love is a natural instinct, dating is not. And if it were, I wouldn’t have a job,” he tells us Logan Ury, Director of Relationship Science at Hinge. «With our app we are not only committed to finding more matches, but to making them find better ones. And the ideal way to achieve a result is to follow the path of those who have achieved it before. Hinge is the only dating app that sends a satisfaction survey to users to find out if they have dated their match and if they plan to meet again. This allows us to learn more and help them meet the right people.”

This dating app which, after its success in the USA is depopulating in Europe, uses the algorithm developed by Nobel laureates Lloyd Shapley and David Gale along with sophisticated machine learning techniques, to find the most compatible match possible.

A match that we could define as «scientific», it is no coincidence that Hinge can count on a unique multidisciplinary team, composed among others of behavioral scientists and data experts, who analyze all phases of the meeting experience. The researchers dive into what factors determine the success of a relationship, so they can show the user more people who can like it.

«Hinge represents the world of dating in its most current version. We constantly listen to users to understand their needs, concerns and desires. The app therefore evolves hand in hand with the dating scenario. For example, given the explosive growth of TikTok and Reels, we’ve introduced new ways to communicate within the app, with voice and video cues. It’s about the possibility of recording a voice note and a 30-second video that helps people express themselves more effectively and thus create better links with the matches on their profile,” Logan tells us.

Among the most interesting features of this app is the strong attention linked to the theme of inclusiveness. It is in fact the first dating application to have introduced various LGBTQIA+ functions and the possibility of declaring oneself «non-binary» between genders. Those who subscribe to the app can also specify the type of relationship desired (for example, explore ethical non-monogamy), in this way, the matching with like-minded people who share their values is encouraged, as well as stimulating users to be upfront about what they are looking for.

“Gen Z, the youngest generation among current users, is also a source of inspiration. This demographic target is redefining the concepts of sexual orientation, gender identity and the idea of relationships. An evolution that has led to several innovations in Hinge, including the use of an algorithm that understands “non-binary” between genders. We currently provide more than 50 genre optionsas well as the ability to manually write your gender identity on your profile», Logan tells us again.

A modern application, in step with the times that aims to offer quality matches by promoting long-lasting relationships: it is designed for those who no longer want to resort to dating, with the aim of being canceled as soon as possible. Seeing is believing.
