Hired killer who executed journalists in RJ is shot dead

A 42-year-old man, accused of being the murderer of at least two journalists, a councilor and other people in the city of Maricá, in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro, was killed after being shot on Friday night (27) .

Rodrigo José Barbosa da Silva, known as “Rodrigo Negão”, was on the balcony of his home, in the community of Cantinho, central region of Maricá, alongside his children, when he was shot several times. Security cameras recorded him being shot and falling to the ground.

The man was taken to Conde Modesto Leal Hospital, in the city center, but did not survive. The Rio Metropolitan Region Homicide Police is investigating the case.

“Rodrigo Negão” was known to the Civil Police and Justice. This is because he was accused of several crimes that took place in the city of Maricá, including the deaths of journalists Robson Giorno and Romário Barros, as well as a double homicide of a councilor and his son.


His name appears in a report from the Niterói, Itaboraí and São Gonçalo Homicide Police Station (DHNSG), which investigates other crimes with the Organized Crime Combat Group (Gaeco) of the RJ Public Ministry (MPRJ).

Furthermore, Rodrigo was also identified as a militiaman who, together with other drug dealers, commanded drug trafficking in some communities in the region.

Before Rodrigo Negão’s death, the MPRJ denounced state deputy Renato Machado (PT), as having ordered the murder of journalist Robson Giorno, owner of a newspaper in the city.

The politician denies the accusations. According to the MPRJ, the deputy and three other people are accused of the crime.
