Hiring in the health area remains high in the 3rd quarter, points out the institute

The number of people employed in the healthcare sector reached 4.77 million between July and September – an increase of 1% compared to the quarter ended in June. This is what the latest report produced by the Institute for Supplementary Health Studies (IESS) points out.

According to the survey, the private sector remains the main employer. Of the total of direct and indirect positions in health, 3.78 million are in private companies, which represents 79.2% of the total.

“We noticed, especially in the Midwest region, that employment increased in the private sector, but decreased in the public sector. It is as if there had been a shift in employment between sectors. But it is a situation that varies depending on the season, it is not regular”, analyzed José Cechin, executive superintendent of the IESS.

Although the private sector concentrates a good part of the occupation, the public sector was the one that grew the most in the last quarter analyzed by the study, with a rise of 1.2% in relation to the period between April and June. The highlight was the Northeast region, which had an increase of 5.4% in the public area.

In the same quarterly comparison, the Brazilian labor market grew 1.9%. “It is natural that now, with the cooling of the pandemic, employment in the economy as a whole grows faster than in health. The sector helped alleviate the mountain of unemployment that we had in the country,” said Cechin.

In the year 2022, health providers were the ones that hired the most. The segment, which includes hospitals and clinics, for example, had an accumulated balance – number of hires minus layoffs – of 88,900, with greater admission of receptionists, elderly caregivers and administrative assistants.

Breaking down by region, the Southeast concentrates more than half of the jobs in the sector, with 2.36 million jobs, but was the second largest in terms of job growth (0.8%), behind only the Northeast, which increased by 2.2 %. Then come the South and Midwest, with 0.7%, and the North, with 0.3%.
