His parents migrated to give him a better life and he managed to graduate as a doctor from Harvard

Completing university studies requires hard work, effort and dedication. That is something that Erick Martínez, son of Mexican farmers, knows perfectly well, who managed to graduate with honors from Harvard in the career of Medicine.

Her story already inspires others to move on and is tangible proof that nothing is impossible, as long as things are done from the heart and with the support of our loved ones.

In 1980, Erick’s parents emigrated from Mexico to the United States in search of a better lifestyle, but fate did not smile at them as they expected, because they could not finish their studies and with only 20 years of age they had to dedicate their lives to work in field.

Despite the obstacles, the couple decided to stay in the American country in the hope that their children would have better luck and so it was, because, recently, their son Erick graduated from Harvard with honors in the degree of Medicine.

Erick recalls that during his second grade in elementary school, a teacher helped him take a test to find out his academic level, as he was surprised by the ease with which he learned. The test result showed that he was a gifted student.

In 2010 he graduated from high school as the top student in his class. Later he managed to enter Harvard University on his own merits. However, he ended up enlisting in military school with the intention of giving something back to the country that opened its doors to his family. A friend told him not to abandon his dreams for a duty that no one demanded of him, but he did not listen to him and entered the military. Some time later, this friend died and Erick dropped out of military school to follow his dreams, just as his friend had requested.

So he wrote a letter to Harvard in the hope that he would still be able to enroll and incredibly and for the second time, the university accepted his admission. In 2015 he completed his studies in Medicine and is now serving as a specialty student in the area of Neurology at the University of California.

Needless to say, Erick thanks his parents for all the effort made to help him reach his goal, because if it weren’t for the days they worked in the sun, he wouldn’t have enough resources to continue. Now he hopes that in the not too distant future he can return all that they gave him.
