It has become a cliché but “driving and alcohol do not go together”. In no case. As much as we believe there is an acceptable amount we are wrong. And it is not uncommon for the effects on our bodies and those around us to be disastrous.

As in the case of 29-year-old Paul Berry from Missouri, USA, who recently revealed that a horrible collision with the car back in 2014 left him in a coma while doctors needed him mutilate the penis and one of his testicles.

The 29-year-old lost control of his car when he returned home drunk and was thrown out of the rear window by the collision. The car made “bumps” and landed on it, crushing it. Result; A broken neck, jaw, hips, pelvis, nose and suffered brain damage.

His penis and one of his testicles were seriously injured and had to be amputated.

Now, seven years later, Paul said he finally had the confidence to talk about his accident and that he was no longer ashamed of the mutilation he had suffered.

Paul said: “They had to mutilate my manhood. They cut down a tree and there is only one dead trunk. Ironically, because I did not feel “man” until the accident. It changed my life forever in a way I would not want in my worst enemy. “

Paul, who was living in St. Louis, Missouri at the time, was driving to see his then-girlfriend, who lived in Columbia, Illinois. He admits he enjoyed a few drinks earlier that night with a friend. As he did almost every day.

“Either I fell asleep or my car slipped in the rain,” he said. “I started to go on one side and turned the steering wheel on the other side trying to correct it but the exaggeration that caused the vehicle to overturn.

Car accident with a broken car

«The car brought some bumps, I went out the window and the vehicle stopped on me».

A truck driver following him stopped to help. An ambulance was called and he was taken to St. Louis University Hospital and placed in an artificial coma until he arrived at the hospital.

The huge battle to be kept alive – “I did not feel like a man until I had” manhood “”

“I was told my heart stopped for a few seconds when I was in the air,” the young man said.

He did not wake up from his coma for five weeks, during which a titanium jaw, 13 screws were placed in his chin and plaques were placed on both sides of his face..

“You could not understand it looking at me but they did a very good job!” Paul joked.

When he got home, he was being cared for by Nancy Berry, 86, and he did not feel comfortable dating for long.

He said: “It was difficult, but because even if I tried to talk to anyone else it was as if I always had this secret. I do not like to expose it, so I never looked for anything.

After the accident, his sister held his beloved ten-year-old dog and told him he could not take it back until it was completely healed. This prompted him to get back on his feet.

He said: “I understood the value of things for which you can live and die. “My then fiancée, my dog, my family, my nieces and nephews – but most of all the dog.”

In December 2014, Paul heard about the first successful penis transplant in South Africa. “I do not have enough money for all this. “But to do it will be wonderful,” he said.

Physically, Paul is fully recovered, but so far he has not had the confidence to talk about how the accident changed his life.

“Life is hard, but it made me much more confident. I realize that it is not the most important thing and it does not determine who you are. I can honestly say that I did not feel like a man until I was a man. “
