Historian Boris Fausto dies at 92

Historian Boris Fausto died, this Tuesday (18), at the age of 92. He leaves two sons, the anthropologist Carlos Fausto and the political scientist Sergio Fausto, general director at the FHC Foundation, and four grandchildren.

The information was confirmed by the FHC Foundation, which left a “strong hug to family and friends”.

Fausto was born on December 8, 1930 in São Paulo. He graduated in Law and History from the University of São Paulo (USP). At the institution, he carried out postgraduate studies and obtained the titles of doctor and professor. He became one of the country’s pioneers in social studies.

He was the author of the books “The Revolution of 1930: Historiography and History” and “History of Brazil” and organizer of the “General History of Brazilian Civilization”, in partnership with Sérgio Buarque de Holanda.

He also carried out research on the political history of Brazil in the republican period, criminality in São Paulo and on authoritarian thought.

Since 2001 he was a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences.
