Volkswagen and its workers’ unions have reached an agreement to cut 35,000 jobs that will allow the car industry to maintain and operate in Germany. The agreement, named “Zukinft Volkswagen”, i.e. the “future of Volkswagen”, foresees a reduction in the production capacity of the factories, as well as safeguarding the remaining jobs, as well as the cut of 35,000 jobs, which is estimated to save 15 billion. euros per year. The reductions in jobs are expected to take place until 2030, while it is emphasized that these will be done “with social responsibility”. According to what was announced: “the agreement will enable sustainable cost savings of more than 15 billion euros per year, of which more than 4 billion euros will come from the reduction of labor costs, restructuring measures, production realignment and the optimal utilization of factory facilities”.
