Historic day for Israel: Yair Lapid forms government

Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid has informed the Israeli president that he has succeeded in forming a government, according to the office of the president and Lapid’s party, Yesh Atid.

Earlier, Islamist Mansour Abbas’s Israeli-Arab Ra’m party announced tonight its support for the formation of a coalition against Benjamin Netanyahu (who has been out of the prime minister’s office for 12 years), ousting one of the last formation of a government in Israel.

Abbas “signed the coalition agreement to form a unity government,” said in a statement the office of opposition leader Yair Lapid, who has until 5:59 p.m. to form the next government.
