Hive Blockchain is testing the mining of various coins using video cards

Mining company Hive Blockchain has begun testing its equipment for mining various coins – the company is looking for a replacement for ether, which will be impossible to mine after switching to PoS.

Hive Blockchain reported that the total capacity of video cards at its disposal is 21.5 MW, which is 16% of the company’s capacity. At the same time, most of it – 14.8 MW – is already outdated equipment, mainly AMD Radeon RX580 video cards. They have been operating since 2018 and have “paid for themselves many times over”. The remaining 6.7 MW is consumed by more modern NVidia RTX graphics cards.

“The company’s technical team is pursuing a strategy to transfer 6.5 Tx/s capacity from ether mining to various coins,” the statement emphasizes.

Hive Blockchain is also considering the possibility of using its capacities for cloud computing and projects based on artificial intelligence. Another mining company, Hut 8, has revealed that it will use its graphics cards for machine learning, artificial intelligence, and other computing projects.

Earlier it was reported that in May this year, Hive Blockchain increased the total hashrate of its equipment by 8%.
